This sample agenda will give you an idea of what to expect during a typical meeting. Our meetings start at 6:15 p.m. and end around 7:30 p.m.

Meeting Segment Description
Toastmaster calls the meeting to order. The evening's Toastmaster sounds the gavel to begin the meeting and introduces the meeting's theme.

General Evaluator introduces the Grammarian and Timer One member acts as overall meeting evaluator and coordinator for their support team. The two members describe their roles for the evening's meeting.
General Evaluator Guidelines

Prepared speeches by one to three members Members present speeches that are both entertaining and help enhance and develop the member's skills. Speeches are generally 5 to 7 minutes, followed by a 1-minute break for the audience to write their comments for the speaker.

Voting - Best Speaker The audience votes for the best prepared speech.

Table Topics The Table Topics Master presents an overall theme or topic. Guests and members are then selected to deliver an impromptu 1 to 2 minute speech in response to a specific question or topic.

Voting - Best Table Topics Speaker The audience votes for the best Table Topics speech.

Speech evaluations Prior to the speeches, members volunteer to evaluate one speaker according to Toastmaster’s guidelines. Their constructive evaluation aids both the speaker and audience. Evaluations run between 2 and 3 minutes.

Voting - Best Evaluator The audience votes for the best speech evaluation.

Grammarian’s report Speaker’s deviations from generally accepted grammar are noted along with the use of filler words like “ah” and “um.”

Timer’s report Each speaking role is timed. This helps us gain a sense of time as speakers and aids our pacing and delivery.

Meeting evaluation General Evaluator gives his or her observations of the overall meeting and presents suggestions for improvement.

Present awards Ribbons are presented to the speakers who presented the Best Prepared Speech, Best Table Topic, and the Best Evaluation.

Feedback from guests Guests are asked to introduce themselves, give their comments about the meeting and are invited to return.

Enlist speakers & roles At each meeting, a different team of people participates through the various roles. Members are requested to volunteer for roles at future meetings. This is a great way to learn new leadership skills.
